Thiopurine s-methyltransferase (TPMT) test

Introduction

A thiopurine s-methyltransferase (TPMT) test is used to check whether a person is at risk of developing severe side effects after taking a medication called thiopurine.

If you’re about to start treatment with thiopurine, you’ll have your TPMT status checked before you begin treatment.

The results of the TPMT test will show whether there’s a risk of developing severe side effects from treatment, such as a decrease in blood cells or a lowered immune response.

Read more about the TPMT test at Lab Tests Online UK.
